Gorillas, Great Plains & Swahili Shores — One Seamless Safari Adventure!

Welcome to Seneiya Expeditions’ signature East Africa journey — a handcrafted 14-day adventure that seamlessly combines the raw beauty of Rwanda’s highlands, the wildlife drama of Tanzania’s world-renowned parks, and the serene beaches of Zanzibar.

Day 2 Kigali City Tour and Volcanoes National Park

Start your day with a delightful breakfast before embarking on an exciting day ahead. Meet your guide and set off on a city tour that includes visits to historic Kigali and local craft markets, as well as the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, where you can learn about Rwanda’s past and the Genocide against the Tutsi.

The lively spirit of Kigali is wonderfully highlighted as you drive to the site of the first modern building, which established the groundwork for Rwanda’s capital city. Following this, you will navigate through vibrant neighborhoods to get an authentic glimpse of life in Kigali. This tour features stops at the city market, and if time allows, you can also visit the Kandt House Museum of Natural History.

Later, head to The Volcanoes National Park, which is about a two-hour drive through stunning landscapes. Upon arrival, you will enjoy lunch, and in the afternoon, experience Ibyiwacu entertainment that showcases Rwandan culture.

Day 3 Full Day in Volcanoes National Park

Wake up and enjoy breakfast surrounded by the pristine natural beauty of the Volcanoes National Park. After an early breakfast, depart from the hotel shortly after dawn with a packed lunch and proceed to Kinigi, located at the base of the Virunga mountains, where your trek will commence. This park is home to the largest population of mountain gorillas within the Virunga Conservation Area.

Your guide and tracker will navigate you deep into the forest in pursuit of your designated gorilla family. The trek may last anywhere from 30 minutes to eight hours, depending on the precise location of the specific gorilla family you are tracking.

Upon encountering the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to spend up to one enchanting hour quietly observing them. The gorillas are likely to be just a few meters away, continuing their daily activities of feeding and interacting with one another, all under the vigilant watch of the silverback.

In the afternoon, return to your accommodation where you can spend the evening reflecting on your remarkable experience with the gentle giants of Rwanda.

Upon reaching the troop of golden monkeys, you will have the opportunity to observe them and capture as many photographs as possible. These charming little creatures, distinguished by their vibrant orange bodies, inhabit only the high-altitude forests of Volcanoes National Park and are more elusive than the gorillas.

Finally, relax and unwind as you’re conveniently dropped off at the airport in Kigali for your direct flight to Kilimanjaro Airport in Tanzania. Upon arrival, our Seneiya Expeditions representative will welcome and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha for dinner and comfortable overnight stay.

Day 5 Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park

Savor a leisurely breakfast, then prepare to discover the cultural and natural wonders of Tanzania. Take a picturesque drive to Mto Wa Mbu, a cultural hub that provides an intriguing glimpse into Tanzania's rich heritage. Nestled between Manyara and Ngorongoro, this distinctive region draws individuals from all 120 tribes, forming a lively cultural mosaic. Enjoy local Tanzanian cuisine at one of the eateries in Mto wa Mbu.

Continue your journey to Lake Manyara National Park - one of Tanzania’s smaller wilderness enclaves, a thin green band of forest flanked on one side by sheer cliffs and on the other by white-hot shores of an ancient soda lake. Feeding on undergrowth or dozing in dry riverbeds are the country’s densest populations of buffalo and elephant. Hippo’s wallow along the lake’s borders and a dazzling variety of birds fly overhead. Although Lake Manyara National Park lions are fond of trees (perhaps envious of their close competitor - leopards!), this is pretty rare, and it is not often spotted on every safari.

This park provides the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. More than 400 species have been recorded, and even a first-time visitor to Africa might reasonably expect to observe 100 of these in one day. Depending on season, you might see thousands of pink-hued flamingos on their perpetual migration, as well as other large water birds such as pelicans, cormorants, and storks.

Enjoy scenic drive as you make your way to your lodge in Karatu. Finally, conclude your day with a delightful dinner and a restful overnight.

Upon arrival, descend down the inactive Caldera – The Ngorongoro Crater, where you will be free to enjoy game viewing until late afternoon.

The Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as "Africa's Eden," is a massive volcanic caldera that hosts an incredible ecosystem supporting a wide variety of wildlife, including the famous "Big Five" (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and buffalo), along with many other species. With a remarkable depth of 600 meters and a diameter of 20 kilometres, the crater is alive with activity, showcasing vibrant ponds and pools that contribute to its ecological diversity.

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and often hailed as the “8th wonder of the world,” Ngorongoro Crater offers a captivating glimpse into the natural world’s splendor.

Day 8 Full day in Serengeti National Park

Savor an early breakfast at your lodge ready for an exciting day ahead. After breakfast, check out with packed lunch and embark on a full-day game drive in this remarkable Serengeti National Park - renowned as one of Tanzania’s premier wildlife destinations.

Serengeti National Park is close to 15,000 square kilometers in size and a World Heritage Site teeming with wildlife all year round. Witness millions of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and elands on a mass trek to quench their thirst for water and graze. During this great cyclical movement, these ungulates move around the ecosystem in a seasonal pattern, defined by rainfall and grass nutrients.

The spectacle of predator versus prey dominates Tanzania’s greatest park. Golden-manned lion prides feast on the abundance of plain grazers. Solitary leopards haunt in the acacia trees lining the river banks, while a high density of cheetahs prowls the south-eastern plains. Almost uniquely, all three African jackal species occur here, alongside the spotted hyena and a host of more elusive small predators, ranging from the insectivorous aardwolf to the beautiful serval cat.

As the evening unfolds, you will have the opportunity to exit the vehicle and immerse yourself in the wilderness, reminiscing about the day's adventures with your cherished companions over a sundowner. Seek out an idyllic vantage point to witness the sun gracefully descend beyond the horizon, drink in hand, chilled to perfection. Observe the hues transform as the golden light cascades over the African bush. This experience stands as one of the most unforgettable highlights of any African safari!

Day 9 Serengeti National Park – Tarangire National Park

Savor an early breakfast before checking out of your lodge with packed lunch and proceed to Tarangire National Park one of the largest national parks in the Northern circuit of Tanzania.

This park is a breathtaking protected area that features massive herds of elephants, wide-open plains, and some impressive giant Baobab trees, making it a perfect spot to see more wildlife with fewer tourists around. The park gets its name from the Tarangire River that flows through it, serving as a vital source of fresh water for the wildlife in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the dry season.

Herds of elephant scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeests, zebras, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland, crowd the shrinking lagoons. It’s the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem. The one place in Tanzania where country antelope such as the stately fringe eared Oryx and peculiar long necked gerenuk are regularly observed. Location: 118 km (75 miles) southwest of Arusha and 2,600 km² (1,005 sq. miles) in size.

This place is a great example of the Swahili coastal trading towns in East Africa, showcasing influences from African, Arab, Indian, and European cultures over the last thousand years.

Stone Town features a maze of narrow streets, allowing you to wander through its winding alleys just like the locals and rulers of Zanzibar did centuries ago, as if time has frozen for a few hundred years. Keep walking to see the House of Wonders (Beit al ajaib), the Palace Museum (People’s Palace), the Arab Fort, and the Slave Chambers. These historical sites will provide you with a glimpse into the events that have shaped Zanzibar's history over many centuries.

After that, make your way to Forodhani Gardens, where you can enjoy seafood prepared in the Zanzibari style.

Learn all about the spices and how they're used in traditional medicine and local Zanzibari dishes. Most of the spice plants that flourish in Zanzibar today were brought in from other countries by the Oman Arabs, who ruled over Zanzibar for centuries.

Lunch will be served at the spice farm, where the owner will treat you to local Zanzibari dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. You'll savor the spices and fruits that are grown right on the farm.
