Following breakfast, your safari guide will provide a briefing before embarking on a drive through breathtaking scenery to Nyungwe National Park, situated in the mountainous southwest of Rwanda. Nestled in the heart of the Albertine Rift, this park boasts the largest high-altitude montane forest in both East and Central Africa, and it is recognized as one of the oldest rainforests on the continent.

The rainforest within the park is inhabited by 13 species of primates. Additionally, Nyungwe serves as a haven for birdwatchers, featuring approximately 300 recorded bird species, with 30 of these being endemic to the Albertine Rift region.

During your journey, you will have the opportunity to visit the Royal Palace Museum and the Ethnographic Museum located in the Southern Province. This visit will provide you with valuable insights into the traditional lifestyles of Rwandans and their historical kingship leadership, accompanied by a lunch along the way.

You are expected to arrive in the afternoon, where you will conclude your day with a delightful dinner followed by a peaceful overnight stay.

Rise with the sun for an invigorating day, seeking out wildlife awakening. After a quick breakfast, head out on a guided hike through the lush evergreen forest of Nyungwe National Park to track down chimpanzees.

Your local guide will take you into the jungle in search of the Chimpanzees. Along the way, keep an eye out for 12 smaller primate species, such as owl-faced monkeys, Dent’s Mona Monkeys, Silver monkeys, Olive Baboons, Red-tailed Monkeys, grey-cheeked Mangabeys, and l’hoest’s monkey.

Finally, when you encounter the Chimps, you’ll have a full hour to enjoy their company and snap as many photos as you like. The trek can last anywhere from 1 to 5 hours, depending on what the chimpanzees are up to in their natural environment.

While you’re in Nyungwe National Park, you’ll also get the chance to walk across the Canopy Walkway, a 200-meter bridge hanging between massive trees, 50 meters above the ground. This walkway provides stunning views of the upper canopy and is perfect for spotting wildlife. Since many primates live in the trees, you’ll have a better shot at seeing them from up there. Plus, it’s a great way to catch sight of the birds and butterflies that inhabit the forest.

After an action-packed day, drive back to the hotel for dinner and a cozy overnight stay.

This park is home to the largest population of mountain gorillas within the Virunga Conservation Area.

Your guide and tracker will navigate you deep into the forest in pursuit of your designated gorilla family. The trek may last anywhere from 30 minutes to eight hours, depending on the precise location of the specific gorilla family you are tracking.

Upon encountering the gorillas, you will have the opportunity to spend up to one enchanting hour quietly observing them. The gorillas are likely to be just a few meters away, continuing their daily activities of feeding and interacting with one another, all under the vigilant watch of the silverback.
