Day 1 Arrival in Dar Es Salaam

Upon arrival at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam our Seneiya Expeditions representative will welcome and transfer you to your hotel.

Take this opportunity to relax and recoup from your flight. If time permits, we can arrange a complementary tour of the botanical gardens. Dar es Salaam is located at the coastline of the Indian Ocean, with a wide array of restaurants and gift shops to explore. Overnight hotel as per our selection or a hotel of your choice.

Day 2 Dar Es Salaam – Ruaha National Park

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your hotel, then check out and proceed to the airport for a flight to Msembe Airstrip in Ruaha. Upon arrival, you will be met by the safari guide and proceed on an enroute game drive to your camp for check in and lunch.

After lunch, continue on scenic game drive. Ruaha is one of Tanzania’s best kept secrets! Its previous inaccessibility means that this park has remained unchanged for centuries and offers the type of wild safari that early explorers were privy to.

Bordered on the east by the Great Ruaha River and the west by Mzumbe River, visitors are struck by it’s the beauty and vast expanse of wilderness stretching down towards the hazy blue hills of the Southern Highlands. its unique location in the middle of Southern and East Africa means that you will experience a diverse blend of the two ecosystems.

The terrain is varied and fascinating with wild fig trees, rare baobab forests, sausage trees (Kigelia Africana) that periodically burst into brilliant scarlet flowers and gorges of glowing orange sandstone. The rivers contain swirling rapids and deep pools inhabited by crocodiles and hippos.

After an eventful day, enjoy an enroute game drive as you make your way to your camp and finally conclude your day with a delightful dinner and a restful overnight.

Day 3 - 4 Full days in Ruaha National Park

Embark on unforgettable full days game drives in Ruaha National Park, the second largest national park in Tanzania, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity.

Start your day early to enhance your chances of encountering incredible wildlife, Ruaha is a permanent hunting ground for lions, jackals, hyenas and the rare and beautifully marked wild dogs. They prey on zebras and numerous antelopes, with both the stunning roan and sable antelope found here as well as greater and lesser kudu. There are also thousands of elephants and buffalo.!

Traverse the park's diverse terrain from expansive savannahs to picturesque riverbanks, you will be treated to stunning views and numerous opportunities for photography. Enjoy a delightful picnic lunch in the heart of African wilderness allowing you to truly connect with the serene environment.

Later in the afternoon, return to your accommodations for dinner. Following a gourmet dinner, set out with your expert guide on an evening game drive in the Ruaha National Park to see the bush come alive as the sun sets. Keep your ears and eyes open for serval, civet, African wild cats, leopards, and plenty of other wildlife.

Afterward, return to your lodge for a comfortable overnight stay carrying memories of this unforgettable day in the Ruaha.

Day 5 Ruaha National Park – Selous Game Reserve

Savor an early breakfast at your lodge, then, make your way to the airport for your flight to Kiba Airstrip. Upon arrival, you will be met by the safari guide and proceed with an enroute game drive to your camp for check in and lunch.

After lunch, embark on a boat safari along the majestic Rufiji River. Uniquely, the Rufiji River game-viewing experience promises abundant sightings of hippos and crocodiles as well as a variety of bird species. Before the sun sets, you will have a sundowner stop in the sandbank.

Selous is not yet discovered by the mainstream of visitors to Tanzania due to its previous inaccessibility. The landscape is shaped by the Rufiji River and its tributaries, lined with Borassus palms. The river swells through the park down to the Indian Ocean, forming a series of small lakes that serve as an important source of water for the multitude of plains game. In the rivers you see crocodiles, hippos and birds in large diversity. Herds of elephants, buffalos, zebras, Gnus and hogs roam across the area. The entire allure of the African bush greets you head-on. It is exclusively within the Selous Game Reserve that one can seamlessly blend game drives, boat excursions, and walking safaris.

After witnessing the sunset, head back to the Camp for a delightful dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 6 -7 Full days in Selous Game Reserve

Awake to the natural sounds of the Selous’s birdlife, enjoy an early morning breakfast preparing for an enriching adventure ahead. After breakfast, check out with packed lunch and embark on a scenic game drive venturing into prime game-viewing areas to witness the incredible animals in their natural habitat. Covering 54,600 Km², the Selous is Africa's largest game reserve and remains one of the most unexplored and remote protected areas on the continent.

It boasts a vast array of wildlife, including over 100,000 elephants (which is about one-sixth of the total in Africa), nearly 160,000 buffalos, the largest hippo herds in the continent, along with crocodiles, wild dogs, lions, leopards, warthogs, gnus, zebras, impalas, elands, and a few cheetahs. Around 350 bird species have been documented. There are only a handful of tourists.

Three-quarters of the Reserve consists of various types of woodlands, short grassy plains, and seasonally flooded pans. Impressive riverine forests and dense, impenetrable thickets serve as crucial habitats within the Selous. The wide, winding Rufiji River is one of the largest water systems in East Africa. With its surrounding wetlands, lakes, and swamps, it represents one of the most remarkable ecological systems in all of East Africa.

After an action-packed day, your guide drops you back at your accommodation inside the national park in time for a gourmet dinner and comfortable overnight.

Day 8 Selous Game Reserve – Transfer to the airport
